Job description

We have an exciting project working with a gentleman with Autism, Learning Disability and Challenging Behaviour in Truro. We need team members day shifts Monday to Friday 9:30 to 6:30 but eventually this will include evenings and weekend work when he moves to his own home. He loves going out on the bus and train and is a sociable and friendly person. This is not a typical job in care and certainly not for the fainthearted! You will need to work as part of a team in the person’s family home, and be there to enable him to lead a wonderful life.

Being a support worker at Aspire Support Ltd is sometimes demanding but always hugely rewarding for those with passion, drive and commitment to improve the lives of people with a learning disability.

Purpose of the role

You will support this man to live a happy and fulfilled life and one that is as independent as possible. You will support them to develop positive relationships and to be an equal and valued member of their local community.
The role has responsibilities that focus on two areas:

Quality

You work effectively to provide individualised, outcome-focussed support to the person you support. You enable them to lead their lives as independently as possible.

Relationships

You work collaboratively, positively and widely with the person, their family, and your Aspire and statutory colleagues.

 

Requirements for the role

Essentials

  • Right to work in the UK (we have no remaining visas)
  • Working with people with autism: 1 year (required)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability and confidence to generate and build effective relationships
  • Basic IT literacy and numeracy skills
  • Supporting people with dignity and respect

Desirable

  • Knowledge about Learning Disability
  • Initiative and confidence to make decisions
  • Basic IT literacy and numeracy skills
  • Knowledge about Care Quality Commission and care standards
  • Educated to GCSE level, or equivalent, in Maths and English and/or Social Care qualification
  • Holds a valid, clean driving license and has own transport

Other

  • Willingness to undertake training and personal development activities as required

What we offer

Contract: Days  |  Full-time  |  Part-time  |  Permanent  |  No les than 18 per week

Pay: £14.90 – £15.60 per hour
