Aspire Support Ltd has been awarded ‘Communication Access Symbol UK’ status, which shows how we are an inclusive communication organisation.  You’ll notice the symbol is now featured on our website.  For more info about Communication Access UK see https://communication-access.co.uk/   We have pledged to improve our capacity to support inclusive communication.  In order to re-register each year, we shall need to demonstrate evidence for those improvements.

Part of our pledge is for all staff to complete Communication Access UK communication training. This is not just about communicating effectively with our service users. It’s also being aware that colleagues, family members, and members of the public might also experience communication challenges and how we can support those interactions.

As communication needs and autism are major features of our Aspire Support Ltd service delivery, since October 2024, we have had a speech & language therapist working part time as communication & autism lead.  All staff receive training in ‘Autism’ as well as in ‘Supporting Choices and Decisions’, both of which look at a range of communication strategies and tools. Our speech & language therapist provides ongoing access to bespoke communication assessment and advice, shaped to the presenting needs.

Another pledge is to use the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists’ 5 Good Communication Standards to conduct a communication survey of the services we provide to each person, in liaison with team members who already know the person very well.  This will demonstrate and celebrate good practice whilst highlighting any gaps which can then form a planned approach to improvement.

The 5 Good Communication Standards are:

  • Standard 1: There is good information that tells you how best to communicate with someone.
  • Standard 2: People are helped to be involved in decisions about their care and support.
  • Standard 3: Others are good at supporting someone with their communication.
  • Standard 4: People have lots of chances to communicate.
  • Standard 5 People are helped to understand and communicate about their health.
